Welcome to the MPKS website.
The Midwest Pond & Koi Society is a not for profit, hobbyist organization whose members have a great depth of knowledge and like to share it.
We are families with a common hobby: koi ponds, garden ponds, koi keeping and plants! MPKS members meet on the 3rd Friday of the month from January through October. You do not have to be a member to attend a meeting.
During the year, MPKS hosts several major events – Koi Auctions, Pond Tour, and a Koi Show & Trade Show. More details of these events are listed here on the MPKS web site.
MPKS is a not for profit, hobbyist organization whose members share a common interest in koi (Japanese colored carp), goldfish, water gardens and backyard ponds. Our members reside mostly in Chicago and surrounding counties as well as Michigan, Indiana, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Missouri.
Important news that could adversely affect our hobby
Ellen Kloubec from Kloubec Koi Farm has alerted the MKPS of the following potential restrictions set by the US government:
“I’m not sure if you are aware of the disturbing things going on with a petition from the Center for Invasive Species Prevention that would add Cyprinus carpio (koi) to the injurious species list.
“This is a real threat to the koi hobby and industry.
“We need every club to take a few minutes to contact the appropriate parties and object to the petition.
“The koi industry and hobby need to be aware of the proposed action that would make any transportation of Koi fish a felony.”
