If you have never shown fish before, or are a veteran koi show participant, we hope you will consider showing your koi this year. Dr. Passovoy and his water quality team (fondly referred to as the “water mopes”) will be assuring the best care of your koi while at our show, as they have done for many years now.

SEMINAR PRESENTATIONS

We will, once again, be presenting a program of speakers and topics of general interest to koi hobbyists.  In conjunction with our show this year, we will be hosting the AKJA (American Koi Judging Association).  We will have 20+ certified judges working our show, this year. This will give us a great opportunity to have some very knowledgeable & interesting speakers.

Three Major Non-Gosanke Awards

plus two new major Non-Gosanke Awards – Mature Champion B and Young Champion B.

POINT SYSTEM FOR DETERMINING VAT REQUIREMENTS

Please use the following system as a guide to determine how many fish can be placed in each vat:

1. Determine the total points by using the table below, which shows points based on the sizes of your koi.
Size 1 up to 8 inches .3 points
Size 2 8 to 12 inches 1.0 points
Size 3 12 to 16 inches 2 points
Size 4 16 to 20 inches 5 points
Size 5 20 to 23 inches 8 points
Size 6 23 to 26 inches 12 points
Size 7 over 26 inches 18 inches

2. As an example, you plan to bring four size 2 koi at 1 point each, three size 3 koi at 2
points each, and two size 4 koi at 5 points each. Your total would be 20 points.

3. Recommended point totals are as follows: For a six foot vat, optimum total is 20
points; maximum total is 25 points. For an eight foot vat, 35 points is optimum and
45 points is the maximum. So for the above example, you would want to reserve
one six foot vat. If your point total exceeds the maximum, you will be asked to take
some of your koi home, or, if vats are available, you may have an option to rent an
additional vat.

VERY IMPORTANT! IF YOUR VAT IS OVER STOCKED, YOU WILL BE ASKED TO TAKE
SOME OF YOUR KOI HOME. THE WATER QUALITY TEAM CANNOT RISK THE HEALTH
OF YOUR KOI DUE TO OVERSTOCKING.

Volunteers

We will, of course, need lots of volunteers to help with the show this year! We’ll be hiring part-time help to set up and break down vats – always a most difficult job – but will need lots of help with vendor booth set up, traffic control, filling the show vats, club table, show tear-down, etc. We are also asking for a few night-owls who would be willing to baby-sit the koi after the show closes until about 10:00 pm on Friday and Saturday.

We will have volunteer sign-up sheets available at the April and May dinner meeting, but you don’t have to wait until then to sign up. If you can help this year, please email to john@mpks.org what days your might be available to help. Please see the volunteer schedule elsewhere on this website for the times and duties.
