DESCRIPTION:Program:  What do you know about birds in your neighborhood? What do you want to know about birds? Who is that visitor to your bird feeder? Is he a resident or just passing through? From your backyard to lake front parks\, the Chicago region is home to many feathered delights. In fall many migrants stop by our parks\, forest preserves and neighborhoods. We will offer some tips on identifying residents and visitors and learning more about their lives by enjoying their fascinating behavior. Some places to explore beyond your yard\, tips on feeder types and maintenance\, and time for questions will be included. \nThis topic will be presented by John Elliott\, a retired Cook County Forest Preserve naturalist and member of the Chicago Audubon Society board. \nLocation: Paisans Pizzeria 2901 Ogden Ave\, Lisle\, IL  Meeting held in lower level of restaurant. DESCRIPTION:The club picnic is planned for Noon on Sunday\, August 28th at Andrew Toman Grove\, W. 27th & Des Plaines Avenue\, North Riverside.  The picnic site entrance is on Des Plaines and the park is open from dawn to dusk with a pavilion and picnic tables.  The park is great for games or just relaxing with friends.  Feel free to bring yard games. Also your own lawn chairs. \nCoolers are welcome! This year we are grilling brats and hot dogs and we ask for a side dish\, dessert\, or any other nibble you may wish to bring. This is the August MPKS meeting. \nThe tour will start at 10:45 AM. The Mitchell Park Domes is located at 524 S Layton Blvd\, Milwaukee WI. The drive is approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes from the Naperville area. \nThe garden has 3 domes – floral\, tropical\, and desert with water features. The cost is $10.00 per person for admission and tour guide. \n  \nAfter the tour\, you may join us for a 1:00 PM lunch at Miss Katie’s Diner located at 1900 W Clybourn St\, Milwaukee WI. The diner is 1.5 miles from the Domes. \nThe lunch menu is House salad\, Choice of a sandwich – Grilled Chicken\, Burger or Cheeseburger\, Mediterranean Chicken\, or Tuna melt on whole wheat. A choice of a side – French fries\, Coleslaw\, or Vegetable. \nA dessert and soda are included . Store is ¾ of a block down on west side of street. \nMore details of topic: \nHuman-wildlife interactions in Chicagoland have occurred since humans first settled the region and had a close relationship and reliance on nature. As our society and the region have become more urbanized\, modifying our backyards\, less people are exposed to wildlife and have a poorer understanding of wildlife behavior and ecology. Some wildlife populations\, such as raccoons\, are also adapting to human development and have led to increased interactions with humans in some areas\, which can often be perceived as conflicts. While the advancement of technology\, social media\, and ability to readily get information at your fingertips is essential for public education\, it can also lead to misinformation regarding how to coexist with wildlife. Misinformation has led to a growing need to improve public education of wildlife and mitigate human-wildlife conflicts. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources – Wildlife Division (IDNR) recently released a new website to do just that. This presentation will showcase the new website\, reporting tactics\, and how to ensure humans and wildlife interactions have reduced conflicts whether it’s in your backyard pond or while walking your pets.
