May Club Meeting

May 17 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm

Program:     Koi Herpes Virus (KHV) – The Essentials

Koi herpes virus can be a devastating disease to an individual hobbyist, but it also has further-reaching consequences, and can impact trade relations on an international level as well.  It is a reportable disease, so it is in a different class than other common diseases or health problems that may occur in a koi pond or tank.  As such, it behooves the hobbyist to be familiar with this disease – how to prevent its introduction to his or her animals as well as how to recognize it if it is present and what to do next, as well as what not to do!

The speaker is Jennifer Strasser, D.V.M.   She earned her bachelor of science in biology at the University of Notre Dame and then obtained her doctorate in veterinary medicine at Oklahoma State University in 1997.  Dr. Strasser became the District 1 Field Veterinarian in 2005, and has also been the Aquaculture Specialist since 2008, when that position was created to address the issue of Viral Hemorrhagic Septicemia and other aquatic infectious diseases of regulatory importance.
