More details of topic:
Human-wildlife interactions in Chicagoland have occurred since humans first settled the region and had a close relationship and reliance on nature. As our society and the region have become more urbanized, modifying our backyards, less people are exposed to wildlife and have a poorer understanding of wildlife behavior and ecology. Some wildlife populations, such as raccoons, are also adapting to human development and have led to increased interactions with humans in some areas, which can often be perceived as conflicts. While the advancement of technology, social media, and ability to readily get information at your fingertips is essential for public education, it can also lead to misinformation regarding how to coexist with wildlife. Misinformation has led to a growing need to improve public education of wildlife and mitigate human-wildlife conflicts. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources – Wildlife Division (IDNR) recently released a new website to do just that. This presentation will showcase the new website, reporting tactics, and how to ensure humans and wildlife interactions have reduced conflicts whether it’s in your backyard pond or while walking your pets.
