Volunteer Appreciation Dinner

The Midwest Pond and Koi Society is hosting the 21st Annual Volunteer Appreciation dinner on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at 1:00 pm.

This dinner is to honor our club members who volunteered a minimum of 8 hours during the 2017 season or participated in the MPKS Pond Tour.

The Volunteer Appreciation Dinner will be a family style dinner held at Clara’s Pasta Restaurant located at 6550 Route 53, Woodridge, IL. All invitations for complimentary dinners have been emailed or mailed out to members.

All MPKS members and their families, who have not qualified for a complimentary dinner, are welcome to attend the dinner for a cost of $35.00 per person.

If you wish to attend please RSVP by November 25th. RSVP via email to charlene@mpks.org or call (312) 409-2081 and press 1.

All dinner reservations will be confirmed.

Last Meeting of 2017

October 20, 2017 is the Last Meeting of 2017

Program:     A discussion on the problems and issues our ponds had this summer.  Annual Elections will be held at this meeting.

Location:  Reserve 22, 485 Winchell Way, Glen Ellyn IL.

Dinner:   Octoberfest Brats and Burgers with salads and dessert with coffee. Please make dinner reservations by Tuesday, October 17, 2017 by calling the Club’s voice mail at (312) 409-2081 (opt 1) or Email ccebulski@comcast.net.

The dinner cost is $25.00 per person. Dinner starts at 7:00PM and the Meeting starts at 8:00PM.

Directions:  The restaurant is located in the Glen Ellyn Village Links. From 355, exit Roosevelt, head west approx 2 miles. Turn left on Park Blvd (south) to Winchell Way.

The order for 2017 has been placed and received.  Check back  August 2018 for the next order.

MPKS is placing a special club order with DeVroomen for tulips, etc. To be part of this club order, the following information should be sent via mail or email to ccebulski@comcast.net.

Depending on the volume of the order, the club may receive a discount. The bulbs will be shipped to MPKS during the month of September.

Come to the MPKS Picnic!

Our picnic is planned for Sunday, August 20th at Andrew Toman Grove, W. 27th & Des Plaines Avenue, Riverside. Our picnic site entrance is on Des Plaines.

The park is open from dawn to dusk and the property has a pavilion with picnic tables. We have a nice piece of park reserved, to accommodate games, or just relaxing with friends. Feel free to bring yard games.

Coolers are welcome!

This year we are grilling assorted sausages and we ask for side dishes and desserts or any other nibble you may wish to bring. Lunch will be served at 1:00 PM.

Road Trip to Kloubec Koi Farm

Myron and Ellen Kloubec have extended an invitation to MPKS to visit their facility on Saturday August 12th. The agenda for the day follows:

Saturday:

Check in at Noon, farm tour, koi purchasing and mud-pond grow out opportunity.

The dinner plans for Saturday evening is a 6:30 PM family style dinner at the Ox Yoke Inn located in Amana. The dinner cost is approx $23.00 per person. After dinner we head back to the Kloubec Farm for a bonfire and BYOB get-together.

Sunday:

A 9:00 AM brunch at the Cedar Ridge Winery, 1441 Marak Rd NW, Swisher IA, for $16.99. Any koi purchases may be picked up following the brunch.

The driving trip is about 3 to 3-1/2 hours from the Naperville/Lisle area. The Amana Colonies are close by for shops and restaurants.

For those who want to spend the night, there is a block of rooms at the County Inns & Suites at Cedar Rapids Airport. The hotel information is 9100 Atlantic Drive SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404, 319-363-3789. The block will be held until August 4th   under Koi Fish Farm and the rate is $89 plus tax.

It’s almost time for Pond Tour!

MPKS Annual 2017 Garden & Pond Tour
Pond Tour Maps are now available!!

July 22nd – 23rd & July 29th – 30th 2017
9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
The cost is $15.00 per family and allows you to tour all four days.

The Midwest Pond & Koi Society invites you to visit our member’s gardens and ponds. This year is our 27th year of MPKS members opening their backyards to the public. The dates are July 22nd, 23rd, 29th, and 30th. The hours are 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on each of the 4 days.
The Garden and Pond Tour is divided into regions to help minimize the travel time and increase your enjoyment of leisurely visiting the gardens and ponds. The Tour is self-guided, so you may pick and choose to visit one or all of the many beautiful gardens and ponds listed.

The four regions are:
• Saturday July 22nd North / Northwest
• Sunday July 23rd Central
• Saturday July 29th Southwest / West
• Sunday July 30th South

For each region, there is a map(s) indicating all the participants in the region. Following the region map(s) is a descriptive narrative of each garden and pond. This includes the address and a description of the garden and pond, along with directions on how to get to the address.

The garden and pond tour maps are available for purchase at the vendors listed on the MPKS website. The cost is $15.00 per family and allows you to tour all four days.
